The UPF 50+ label on our polo shirts refers to a laboratory standard for textiles. It measures how much ultraviolet radiation passes through the synthetic yarn to the other side. Cloth with this score allows less than one fiftieth of available rays through its structure. We apply this metric directly to the yardage before cutting collars and sleeves.
This number is a property of the dry cloth itself. It is not a medical claim or an absolute shield for your body. If the fabric pulls tight over your shoulders, the spaces between threads widen. That mechanical stretch lowers the barrier slightly. Knowing how the textile behaves helps you select the correct fit for long rounds under direct light.
Tight knits and yarn chemistry

Mild liquid soap protects both the dye and the sun rating over repeated washings.
Skip fabric softeners entirely when washing activewear tops. Softeners coat the polyester filaments with a waxy film that clogs the knit structure and ruins moisture management. Hang the shirts to dry in the shade or tumble dry on low heat. High dryer temperatures break down the elastane component, which leads to fabric thinning and reduced surface density over time.
